Stanford-Ward family papers, 1811-1957 1811-1836.

The majority of this collection is correspondence written by Hannah Ward Stafford to her husband, Ward Stafford, and her father, Thomas Ward. There are also letters from Ward Stafford to his father-in-law and letters of recommendations by Theodore Frelinghuysen, Dewitt Clinton, Archibald Alexander, and H. McCauley. There is also one folder of miscellaneous items, which include a short play in the hand of Hannah Ward Stafford called, The Great Assize or Day of Judgement, and a small amount of genealogical information.

Archibald Alexander, 1772-1851; Presbyterian pastor and educator; in 1794, pastor of Briery Church (Hampden, Va.). In 1796 he became president of Hampden-Sydney College. In 1807 he accepted a call to Old Pine Street Church in Philadelphia. Later that year he was elected Moderator of the General Assembly.
